About BBB Shred Day

Better Business Bureau serving Central, Coastal, Southwest Texas and the Permian Basin is part of an expansive network of local BBBs across North America that collaborates to produce this bi-annual shred day event. The program is a BBB-branded identity theft, fraud prevention and educational initiative that features on-site document destruction and distribution of identity protection tips and resources to local communities.

BBB Shred Day is an opportunity for local consumers and businesses to prevent identity theft and help the environment through free on-site document shredding, as well as paper, cell phone and computer recycling. BBB Shred Day is held in communities throughout BBB’s service area including Corpus Christi, Killeen, Midland/Odessa, Round Rock and San Antonio.

AUSTIN

Better Business Bureau invites consumers and businesses in the Central Texas area to participate in a free secure data destruction and electronics recycling event on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Dell’s Round Rock campus.

Global Environmental Services (GES) will be on hand to take and recycle your old computers, monitors, printers, circuit boards, fax machines, hard drives and laptops. We’ll also recycle your old cell phones. Cintas will also provide a limited number of shredding trucks for on-site document and paper shredding. Please no more than two boxes of sensitive documents per vehicle.

BBB serving Central, Coastal, Southwest Texas & the Permian Basin offers free annual events focused on helping consumers protect their personal information and prevent identity theft. Last year, your local BBB helped safely process and destroy nearly 30,000 pounds of computer and electronics material, which would otherwise be left vulnerable to identity thieves.

Identity theft is a growing problem in the United States. A Federal Trade Commission Consumer Sentinel Network report showed that there were 369,132 complaints filed in 2012 relating to identity theft, which is more than double the number of complaints filed a decade earlier.

While identity theft prevention is the primary focus, this free event also helps protect the environment; with no material ending up in our local landfills. For more details about this event visit our website at austin.bbb.org.
